When you decide to use curtains it is never as easy as you think it will be. First you need to find the right curtain and then the right rod and then decide on the style of hanging. It is quite a complicated process if you want to get it right. The rod and the way you hang the curtain is fundamental to the way it will look at the end.
It is also true that styles out date. For lots of information on what rod to use visit; http://acanthusandacorn.blogspot.com.au/2010/07/drapery-rods-whats-in-style.html This blog helps explain the need for a bigger or smaller rod and how to make it all have the right look in terms of perspective and proportion.
Soft furnishings are a lot of fun. The best bit is picking the fabric but the worse bit is the hanging. I suggest you do a lot of research and if possible engage the help of a professional. These days it is very in fashion to have a very simple track over the more ornate style rods however what is in fashion and on trend does not always suit the space.
and for something different……

Chicfinds the 60’s one of the most inspiring era’s for fashion, beauty and aesthetics.
If you love this era for the style then you can’t miss the tv series Mad Men. It is a brilliantly directed and photographed series that is based on an advertising firm in NY on Madison Avenue in the 1960’s. The costumes, hair styles and set design is so well done that you become immersed in the era. Chic finds loves Betty and her every look which signals style, glamour and a throw away feeling that must have come after the war when there was a new found wonderment of life and the sexual revolution!
The pointy shoe, red, black and Bee hive’s are all signatures of the 60’s. A red trench or a pointy shoe scream 60’s siren…. Dolce & Gabbana always have something to offer from this era and this season is no exception with a Sicilian theme. Shop the colleciton with Net a Porter; http://www.net-a-porter.com/Shop/Designers/Dolce_and_Gabbana/All or go directly to Dolce & Gabbana store: http://store.dolcegabbana.com/

Chic Finds loves the photography of Mert & Marcus. Represented by one of the best Photographic Agencies in the world; Art Parner, you can see their amazing porfolio: http://www.artpartner.com/artists/image/mert-alas-marcus-piggott/
Wikepedia this week writes:
“Mert and Marcus are Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, fashion photographers. Their work and style is heavily influenced and shaped by the photography of Guy Bourdin and also the use of digital manipulation of which they have pioneered the use. They have defined the look of the past decade and as a duo are one of the most respected and acclaimed photographers working today.
Mert and Marcus, both born in 1971 in Turkey and Wales, respectively, met for the first time in England in 1994 after having worked for a brief period in completely different areas, the first in classical music and the second in graphic design. Marcus was an assistant photographer and Mert was a fashion photo modeler. After working together in the photography business, they decided to create a team. When they showed their first photos to “Dazed and Confused”, the London fashion magazine, they immediately made the cover.
Strongly known for their portraits of sophisticated, powerful women, Alas and Piggott’s photos lend an air of grace and unmistakable perfection to advertising. “The difference between us and other photographers is that we care a lot about appearance,” says Alas. “We spend most of the time in the make-up and hairstyling rooms”. The team works today for magazines such as Vogue USA, Vogue Italia, W Magazine, Pop Magazine, Numero and Arena Homme Plus. Some of their major clients are top fashion labels such as Louis Vuitton, Missoni, Giorgio Armani, Roberto Cavalli, Fendi, Kenzo and Miu Miu. They created the images for perfume houses such as Gucci, Yves St Laurent, Givenchy and Lancôme. “
Chic Finds feels like some glitter and sparkle from the depths of the Ocean and is is the mermaid that inspires us to look for sequence and precious fabrics. The mermaid is like the sparkle of the deep sea and there are many mythological tales that tell the stories of these creatures of the sea. “Mermaid” is a compound of mere, the Old English word for “sea”.
“In European folklore, mermaids were associated with sirens, beautiful creatures whose singing lures sailors to their doom. Mermaids were commonly pictured as floating on top of the waves, singing or combing their long hair and gazing into mirrors. Seeing a mermaid was considered bad luck, as mermaids often appeared before storms or other disasters and were believed to carry drowned men away to their kingdom at the bottom of the sea. Although encounters with mermaids and mermen often ended badly for humans, in some legends, these sea creatures married human partners and took completely human form to live on land.”

The images you frame for the home, office or any other work space don’t have to be your own. You also don’t need to go to great expense. If you find some beautiful images that fit in terms of texture, colour and tone for the room then nothing easier then printing them off and framing them!
You can also change the images anytime you like!
Chicfind’s loves the dusty colours of autumn and the idea of bringing the orchard and Avery indoors, is so sweet. To create this look it is quite simple using wooden panels and wall paper a room can be transformed and go from lacking complete character to being a room with true embrace. It’s Friday and we are almost on weekend here in Australia, other places are just starting their Friday or they haven’t yet but soon will be! Friday is a wonderful day of the week as we can free ourselves of the constraints that surround us 5 days out of 7.
Shake off that end of work sometimes fed up feeling and bare all!
Cut loose, take it off and enjoy to be free in the jungle!
Photography by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin. If you are lucky enough to be getting away to a beautiful hot or cold spot, enjoy it. If the pay check isn’t stretching, use visualization. Great way to getaway without really getting away but you come back refreshed and ready to face another week. Enjoy!
Bohemian has many different definitions but the general meaning is a movement of artist and poets in late 19th century France, especially in Paris. Bohemians believed in living outside of the bourgeois (conventional, middle class) mainstream culture. Bohemians were against the Salon (the institution that controlled the literary and art market in France until the turn of the 20th century)and believed that art and literature should be radical.
Bohemian style is about doing things your way, away from convention and its all about self expression and creative energy. Creating your own style using recycled or finding things on a shoe string means also creating magic from the mundane.
